About Student-Initiated Programs:

SIP introduces K–12 and community college students to the college experience and the possibilities of higher education. Open to all students, including those interested in learning more about college, SIP offers academic enrichment and personalized mentoring from volunteer UC students to help participants build skills, gain confidence, and prepare for success in their academic journey. Funded by the UC Office of the President, SIP is an initiative designed to support UCR student organizations that organize outreach activities and events targeting these students. This strategic plan outlines the goals, objectives, strategies, and action plans to expand the program's impact, sustainability, and effectiveness.

SIP at the University of California, Riverside supports UCR student organizations both financially and through professional development opportunities, empowering them to plan and execute outreach events. SIP is designed to foster leadership, promote professional skills, and increase college-going rates and graduate/professional school enrollment for students.

Upcoming:

  • Student-Initiated Programs (SIP) Grant Application is now open!
Registered UCR student organizations can apply for a SIP grant of up to $10,000 for their organization's outreach program or event. Outreach events should aim to introduce K-12 and community college students to the college experience, the possibilities of higher education, and promote a college-going culture. If your organization would like to apply, please submit your application at least four weeks in advance of your event to ensure ample time for our review and processing.
    • Submissions of grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis; however, we encourage organizations to apply as soon as their outreach event or program is planned, as funding is limited and applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
